Hello [Representative/Senator's Name], My name is [Your Name], and I am a concerned citizen and constituent calling from [Your Location].

I wanted to bring an important matter to your attention regarding the urgent need for federal protections for transgender individuals. Today, November 20th, 2023, a protest called the Trans Liberation March is taking place in Washington, DC, demanding Congress to introduce and pass legislation that safeguards the rights of transgender people.

Unfortunately, due to [mention accessibility/disability/driving concerns], I am unable to attend the protest physically. However, I firmly believe in the importance of equality and justice for all individuals, including the transgender community. Therefore, I am participating in the Protest From Your Couch initiative, where individuals who are unable to attend the protest in person engage in advocacy by calling their representatives and senators.

I am reaching out to you today to express my concerns about the increasing attacks on trans rights and trans healthcare including the 550+ anti-trans bills being introduced in 49 states. As a member of Congress, I urge you to prioritize the rights and well-being of transgender individuals by supporting and co-sponsoring legislation that provides comprehensive protections against discrimination based on gender identity, including the prohibition of the trans panic defense.

Transgender individuals face disproportionate levels of discrimination, violence, and barriers to healthcare. It is crucial that we address these issues by enacting policies that promote inclusivity, equality, and respect. I urge you to consider the urgency of this matter and take a stand for the rights of transgender Americans by invoking the Necessary and Proper Clause and passing protections for all trans people, finally stopping the systematic attacks on trans rights.

Thank you for your attention, and I hope I can count on your support in advocating for comprehensive protections for transgender individuals.

Sincerely, [Your Name]

Hello [Representative/Senator's Name], My name is [Your Name], and I am a concerned constituent calling from [Your Location].

I am reaching out to you today to discuss a pressing issue regarding transgender rights and the urgent need for federal protections. As you may be aware, the Trans Liberation March is taking place today, November 20th, 2023, in Washington, DC. This protest aims to draw attention to the increasing attacks on transgender rights and the critical need for comprehensive protections.

While I understand that there may be differing viewpoints on this issue, I strongly believe in the principles of equality, fairness, and respect for all individuals. It is crucial that we recognize and address the unique challenges faced by transgender individuals, including discrimination, violence, and barriers to healthcare.

However, even if you are not willing to change your position, surely you must understand how this issue will affect the whole nation, not just the trans community. In the case of Oklahoma House Bill No. 1011, it becomes a felony to provide gender affirming care to anyone the age at 26; the United States has a shortage of doctors and passing a law like this will only make this issue worse. Half of the resumes that belong to felons don't get looked over, making it excruciatingly hard for a doctor to return to work after this charge. In the case of Florida Senate Bill No. 254 and Texas Senate Bill No. 1690, the state can take custody of child who receives gender affirming care; do you really want families to be torn apart by this?

Gender affirming care has also been shown to improve mental health in a study published by doctors Anthony Almazan and Alex Keuroghlian in 2015 showed that there was an improvement in mental health and a reduction in smoking and suicidal thoughts among transgender individuals who received gender reassignment surgery. Out of a sample of nearly 28,000 it was found that close to 80% of respondents wanted to start some form of gender affirming care; the study went further to cite a study from 1998 following 79 transgender individuals after gender reassignment surgery who showed an improvement in mental health after surgery.

The data has shown, and continues to show that transgender individuals need access to gender affirming care. I implore you to consider the experiences and well-being of transgender Americans when making decisions related to legislation and policies. By supporting and co-sponsoring measures that ensure equal rights and protections for transgender individuals, you have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of countless constituents.

I understand that this topic can be divisive, but I urge you to approach it with empathy and an open mind. It is our duty as elected officials to represent and protect the civil rights of all individuals, regardless of their gender identity.

Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I hope you will take the time to seriously consider the importance of federal protections for transgender individuals.
